Alternatives to Original Apple Airport Card

Alternatives to  Original Apple Airport Card 802.11b are very few. The only direct replacement is even harder to find then the apple card. Sony made the Original Apple Airport Card for Apple, the Sony Part number is PCWA-C150S or ERA-201D1, same card except it has an antenna on the top of it that once unpluged yields an Original Apple Airport Card with Sony labeling.

Indeed. Additionally, some revisions of the old Lucent WaveLan Silver PCMCIA cards can be modded to work. You can pull the card apart, chop off the extra circuit board on the end, and solder on an antenna connector. It's bit a bit of a bitch, but it's doable.

I think it might actually be worth it to investigate adding a couple internal USB ports, and using a compatible 802.11g USB dongle to add internal wireless. You might even be able to attach the antenna to a dongle.

PCMCIA alternatives to Airport

I have an iBook G3 on which I have already installed Debian GNU/Linux. It's working well (for the most part), but the old Airport card only supports WEP encryption.

Since I am no longer using Mac OS X, could I modify any PCMCIA card to fit into the Airport slot? If so, I would then be able to use WPA1/2 with my iBook.
